HUOLTO 4:18 on Myllyteatterin ja Helsinki 98:n yhteistyönä toteuttama anarkistinen tragikomedia, jossa huumori repeää ilmoille ja paljastaa jotakin, mitä emme haluaisi nähdä. Esitys avaa raadollisen kuvan suomalaisen yhteiskunnan mielenmaisemasta, jossa sivistyksen ja yhteisvastuun on annettu vääjäämättömästi murentua.

Vanhaan Vuosaaren lukioon rakennettu esitys kutsuu katsojan keskelle rapautuvaa koulurakennusta. Paikkasidonnainen esitys hengittää pölyä ja menneisyyttä – saa meidät muistamaan jotain sellaista mitä tulemme vielä kaipaamaan.

HUOLTO 4:18 -esityksessä näyttämöllä on yksi henkilö. Vanha klovni. Nykyinen laitoshuoltaja Myrsky Hartikainen. Hartikainen on nähnyt sukupolvien kulkevan käytävillä ohitseen. Kasvavan, katoavan, putoavan pimeyteen. Nyt koulu on suljettu ja omakin tulevaisuus uhattuna. Jäljelle jää vain varasto täynnä muistoja – ja unettomuus, joka syö järjen reunoja.

Kun maailma ympäriltä hajoaa, jokin alkaa rakentua tilalle.

HUOLTO 4:18 ammentaa inspiraatiota Kae Tempestin rap-albumista Let Them Eat Chaos, Todd Phillipsin elokuvasta Joker ja Anna Kontulan kirjasta Pikkuporvarit. Monitaiteinen työryhmä koostuu esineteatterin, esitystaiteen, klovnerian ja absurdin teatterin tekijöistä ja synnyttää näyttämökieltä, joka on yhtä aikaa groteskia, koskettavan arvaamatonta ja viiltävän tarkkaa. Teoksen ytimessä on dark clown -estetiikka, jossa mikään ei ole pyhää ja kaikki on mahdollista. Klovni ei lohduta. Klovni paljastaa. Ja kun tämä klovni nauraa, joku on jo ylittänyt rajan.

A traditional Turkish puppet theatre, nearly 700 years old, takes the stage combining traditional and modern styles. Karagöz and Hacivat are the two main characters. The story is as follows:

Karagöz is unemployed, as always, and Hacivat finds him a job. Karagöz takes orders in a pizzeria. The orders are made in different languages and the customers have various special requests. Karagöz gets all the orders wrong and things become a mess. How can order and harmony be restored?

This is a performance about coexistence which uses pizza as the metaphor.

This visually and musically distinctive performance tells the story of a lonely monster child, Greige, setting off on a sea adventure with an ever-optimistic bird singing in colours. Soon, it becomes clear that the bird is not as trustworthy as Greige hoped. Stranded on a deserted islet, the two must overcome their differences in order to get back home.

Thematically, the work explores loneliness and the longing to be heard. It follows Greige’s journey of growth and the discovery of their own voice.

Katveisto is an interactive audio walk taking place in Kontula, where a local guide takes you on a walk. As you walk with your guide, wearing headphones, you will hear the stories, feelings and memories of local people collected over a year, set along a route that you will take together.

The work is an intimate and immersive experience built on fragmented observations of everyday life and a dialogue between stories and the urban environment. How are emotions attached to places? How does a place shape us? How do emotional journeys differ and why?

It gathered on the stage the artists and core characters from all the past fifteen years. The carusel-like stage of the mind took the spectator through the philosophy of the theatre and the art of the theatre group, to the cliffls of the award-winning Kolga performance.

”Myllyteatteri founded in 2003 is a camelboots-theatre in the filed of Helsinki free theatre. The company is known for its visual-musical stage language and innovative productions. In the 15 years of its existence it has performed in Finland as in abroad, like in Poland, Portugal, Italy, Macedonia, Scotland and Ireland. Myllyteatteri consists of professionals of thetare, circus and music. Since the foundation until the 15th anniversary it has been lead by the director-writer Miira Sippola. The activities of Myllyteatteri also includes rather large theatre projects such as The Tragedy Competition held on Helsinki Railway Station Square in 2008. The multi-national theatre project based on Dante’s Divine Comedy was awarded as the Best Performance in Skupi ITF festival in Macedonia in 2012. In 2017 Myllyteatteri’n Kolga was the Teresa Pomodoro –contest in Milano.

”Myllyteatteri was born from the vision in theatre and performance art in which the human physics and music combine, to created the mind on stage. The context of our theatre is the visual-physical theatre of European auteur-directors and performers. Akira Hino is known first and foremost as a master of Japanese Budo martial arts, but he is also a director, choreographer and teacher. Akira Hino’s son, Ikki Hino, in turn, is a world-renowned expert on Taiko drums and the related tradition, and a drummer. Yuko Takeda is an actress and director, who lives in Finland and has worked for Myllyteatteri, University of Arts Helsinki, among others.

Kolga is a place on the shoreline of Estonia, directly across the Baltic Sea from Finland. It is a place on the edge, where land and sea meet, a place for mind-clearing and contemplation.

Kolga premiered in Helsinki in October 2016. It visits Feile na Bealtanaine festival in Ireland in April 28-29, 2017 in An Lab Theatre. After that Kolga is seen in the Teresa Pomodoro Prize event, on May 3rd and 4th at Spazio Teatro No’Hma, Milan.

The poem is divided into three verses which inform the hour-long performance.

The first verse describes Kolga, a metaphor for the mind, in its timeless surrealistic aspects.

The second is full of tension, frustrated waiting, and anxiety.

The third brings us to the present moment, to a sense of clarity and presence.

The final words of the poem are: This is the end of the world.

Kolga was well received by critics in Helsinki who wrote:

‘The poem by Tommi Parkko is like a recipe, from which Myllyteatteri concocted an extraordinary piece for the stage. Henna Kaikula’s surpasses herself with an astonishing performance. She extended the concept of humanity in Kolga, bending reality itself with the many amazing characters she created and presented.’ – Aleksis Salusjarvi, YLE (Finnish Broadcasting Company)

‘Kolga probes the cavities of the human mind and avoids surface realities. Everything appears to function in accordance with Artaud’s concept of ‘poetics of space’ where music, mime, gestures and lighting create a whole. In Kolga the aesthetic elements merge and collectively result in the theatrical event.’

Beside the ten actors on stage the spectator sees ten equal-looking, human size puppets. The carrousel of memory spins around as the the performance leads the spectator through the inner layers of the mind to the gala itself.

The visual design – puppets, scenography and costumes – are designed by a wonderful Polish artist, Lukasz Trzcinski.

The performance will visit Cricoteka, the performing arts’ centre founded by Tadeusz Kantor, in Krakow, October 16th-17th, 2015.

The performances in Helsinki were during 10.10.-14.11.2014, in KokoTeatteri.

The structure of Myllyteatteri’s theatrical Divina Commedia is the same that Dante used in his 13th century classic. There is a Hell, a Purgatory and a Paradise, and the same timeless questions raised by Dante: what is the meaning of life? What is in the core of a human being? The languages spoken in the performance are English and Portuguese with a small tastes of Finnish, Greek and Japanese. Translation for subtitles in English are available. However, the performance is a unique visual and musical multilayered universe on its own, through which the person in crisis travels, and the spoken language is not crucial issue in the performance. The theatrical music matters.

>> Myllyteatteri gave to the audience a unique performance, based on Dante’s Divina Commedia and his poetry, but translated and adapted in the language of the theater. Divina Commedia 3.0 creates a unique universe, which is visual in a charming and style way: the costumes, set and light, the stylezed movement language of the performers, carried on with a funny sound plan and the roles of the traveller and the guide, who work as keys for following the story. The performance makes a curing journey through the visually overwhelming scenes. The performance happens ultimately in the head and heart of the spectator.
